At least 20 women of Barangay 6 in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, learned how to make rugs at the barangay’s Day Care Center on July 21, through the city’s Children and Women’s Affair Incorporated’s program dubbed “Rag Rug Making.”
Sangguniang Panlungsod Member and Committee Chair on Family and Women’s Affairs Victoriana Cabili said women portray a great role in the community and society because they have so much potential in making worthwhile things that could help bring income to the family.
Ma. Consuelo Janice Carmona, SCCCAWAI president, shared that the women’s group is the third batch that benefited from the said livelihood training.
She added that barangays 2 and 3 participants have already completed the training while Sipaway Island residents will be next on the list and that SCCCAWAI will be looking for potential buyers so that women can earn while they continue to make their products.
Each participant received rug frames and five kilos of rice and canned goods after the training.*
