A total of 2,400 kinder and grade 1 pupils in 29 elementary schools in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, recently availed of school supplies and COVID kits from GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. (GMAKFI), in collaboration with 62nd Infantry Battalion, Philippine National Police, and Department of Education.
The GMAKFI’s Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukan (UHSK) Project aims to extend help to children from Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, the 62IB said in a statement it issued.
Each backpack contains five notebooks; two pencils; a box of crayons; two pads of paper, a pencil, a sharpener, and a COVID Kit containing alcohol, shield bath soap, and a facemask.
Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd Infantry Division commander, lauded the concerted effort of 62IB, GMKFI, and other partner agencies, including the city government of Canlaon, in reaching out to children living in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas in Negros Oriental.
On the other hand, the 94th Infantry Battalion also signed its pact with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for a Marketing Agreement to support the Sitio Flora Agrarian Reform Cooperative (SFARC) and Victory Hills Farmers Association, in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The Marketing Agreement was signed in Bacolod City on August 19, as facilitated by the 32nd Civil Military Operations Company, in presence of Atty. Milagros Isabel Cristobal, Agrarian Reform Undersecretary for Support Services.
The Partnership is a commitment of the 94th Infantry Battalion to the government’s effort to address food security by reducing hunger and alleviating poverty.
It is also an avenue for new opportunities for the farmer-beneficiaries to promote their products and expand their market to increase their income, a statement from the 94IB said.*
