Seasoned Negrense journalist Carla P. Gomez is among eight recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Sillimanian Award, the highest honor given by Silliman University to its alumni, at rites held at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium in Dumaguete City on August 28.

Gomez was conferred the award in the field of community journalism “for her unwavering dedication to truth-telling and nation-building through over four decades of ethical and compassionate journalism. As a leading voice in the Philippine community journalism, she has championed the cause of the marginalized, covering stories of injustice, poverty, and resilience with courage and clarity.”

“Her leadership at the Visayan DAILY STAR and later at Digicast Negros has shaped local journalism in the region, sustaining its relevance even in challenging times. A prolific writer, editor, and contributor to national and international media, she has become a trusted chronicler of community life. In both word and witness, she upholds the Silliman spirit of public service, ethical reporting, and transformative storytelling.”
