Sixty-six assorted firearms, which either seized from, or surrendered by New People’s Army in Western Visayas, were destroyed on December 13, through a demilitarization ceremony held at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.
The ceremonial demilitarization of assorted firearms were witnessed by Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd Infantry Division commander and Brig. Gen. Rogelio Ulanday, deputy commander of the Army Support Command and chairman of the Philippine Army Disposal Committee.
Arevalo said that the demilitarization’s essence is to show that there is only one Armed Forces of the Philippines in the country.
By demilitarizing it, these firearms will never be used again by rebels in sowing terror in Region 6, he added.*
