Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go yesterday said that he will support the creation of Negros Island Region, if it will do good for the two Negros provinces.

Go, who attended the 40th founding anniversary of Don Salvador Benedicto town, accompanied by his friend, movie actor Philip Salvador Benedicto, said “rest assured, what will be good for Negros, I will help.”

While he is only one of the 24 votes in the Senate, he added “if they want it, for the development of your province, I will be there to help, stressing that he is also a “Bisaya,” of which half of the population of Negros Occidental, and most of Negros Oriental, also identify as.

The NIR creation was already approved by the committees of Local Government, both in the House of Representatives and Senate, respectively.

The proposed new region will be composed of Negros Occidental and Oriental, and Siquijor. Negros Oriental and Siquijor are currently part of Region 7, while Negros Occidental belongs to Region 6.

Before distributing goods and assistance in Don Salvador Benedicto, Go led the groundbreaking rites of the Super Health Center in Brgy. Prosperidad, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, also attended by Mayor Renato Gustilo and other city officials.

Go, chairs of the Senate committee on Health, said he is very happy for the construction of a Super Health Center in Brgy. Prosperidad, San Carlos City, as he learned that some pregnant women in the country, give birth inside commercial vehicles, because the hospital is too far.

He added that the Super Health Center can be used as a birthing, vaccination, laboratory, and isolation facility.

The health center has a budget of P16 million, of which the P10 million will be provided by the Department of Health, while the city government will have a counterpart of P6 million.*
