The body of a lifeless senior citizen was found beside the river of Sitio Lapuz, Purok 2, Barangay 3, in Sipalay City on Sunday morning.
The victim was identified by the alias “Jardelita,” a 77-year-old widow and a resident of Barangay Mambaroto in the city.
Based on the information given by PLT. Cipriano Lumanog III, deputy of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the victim was washing her clothes at the river near her house in Purok Kamatis when she accidentally slipped into the river.
She was swept into a deep portion of the river by the current, and was later found face down beside the river at the neighboring barangay, with no signs of life.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard, together with personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), brought the victim to Sipalay City Infirmary, where she was declared dead.*
