The BPI Bayan Negros Occidental “Sidlak sa Latasan” project in EB Magalona has been adjudged again as “Project of the Year (Padayon Category)” during the 2023 BPI Bayan Awards held December 15 at the Makati Diamond Residences in Metro Manila.
The Sidlak Sa Latasan project is a continuing program and initiatives of BPI Bayan Negros Occidental, aims to rehabilitate and preserve mangrove areas in coastal barangay of Latasan in E.B. Magalona, and implementation of environment related programs, such as coastal clean up, basura baylo bugas, emergency preparedness and providing income generating livelihood training for its residents.
Aside from it, the Sidlak Sa Latasan project was among the top 5 best projects for 2023 in Padayon Category and a top 10 Best Projects finalist.
The Sidlak Sa Latasan project of BPI Bayan Negros Occidental benefitted 475 households in the barangay, of which 37 are members of the Brgy. Latasan Fisherfolks Association (BALAFA) and 23 others affiliated with Brgy. Latasan Small Fisherfolks Association (BALASFA).
The award was received by BPI Negros Occidental head volunteers Christine Marie Villan and Jean Annmarie Nombre.
The BPI Bayan Negros Occidental also shared the awards to the municipal government of E.B. Magalona, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Jojo Vargas, barangay officials of Latasan, among others.
Twenty four BPI Bayan Volunteer Groups were vying for the Project of the Year award.
Ma. Eliza Paz Dioneo Ebojo, another head volunteer of the BPI Bayan Negros Occidental “Sidlak sa Latasan”, disclosed that they so received a similar award in 2022, aside from being among the Top 10 Best project finalist, Bayanihan awardee and for winning the Project of the Year Likha Category in 2022.*
