Silay mini dump truck crash faces probe

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Mayor Joedith Gallego yesterday said that a fact-finding committee has been created to establish the facts behind the road crash on June 27 in Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, which resulted in the deaths of seven persons and injuries to 17 others.

Before taking any action, Gallego said he will wait for the results of the investigation to be conducted by the committee, which has members coming from different Silay City government offices.

The seven fatalities were reported as job order employees of the Silay City government who were participating in a tree planting activity in the barangay.

Gallego and Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez said that they extended the necessary assistance to the families of the victims and survivors.

Hernane Masa, the driver of the mini dump truck owned by the Silay City government that figured in the crash, is recuperating at home after he was released from the hospital, according to P/Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief.

On the other hand, the Land Transportation Office 6 has issued a show cause order against Masa, 53, for alleged violation of Sections 18, 32 and 48 of RA 4136, known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

In a radio interview, LTO 6 regional director Gaudioso Geduspan said that Masa was given five days to submit his explanation in connection with the road crash.*
