Months after Typhoon Odette, the Sipalay City government, headed by Mayor Maria Gina Lizares, continued providing assistance to livestock raisers severely affected by the typhoon.

A total of 100 carabaos, 30 cattle, and 88 goats will be distributed to identified beneficiaries from different barangays in the city, with the first batch of distribution started yesterday.

The “Post Typhoon Odette Livestock Restocking and Rehabilitation Program” was initiated by Lizares and implemented by the City Veterinary Office, and was funded through the joint efforts of the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City Agriculturist’s Office.

Lizares said she is truly happy that the program came to fruition. Aside from other assistance that the people of the city received after Typhoon Odette, she said she saw the need to provide assistance to those whose livestock were affected.

“I am hoping that this program will help the beneficiaries continue their livelihood,” Lizares said, reminding them that they have a responsibility in raising what they received from the city.

City Veterinarian Dr. Rosalina Paderog assured the beneficiaries that her office will assist in monitoring the health of their animals and provide consultations if needed.

Meanwhile, three newly acquired environmental equipment, which include sanitary landfill compactor, diesel multifunction sanitation truck or street sweeper, and a garbage compactor, were turned over to the city on August 16.

Rev. Fr. Raffy Carnal led the blessing of the equipment and was attended by Mayor Lizares; councilors Genaro “Ralph” Alvarez IV, Leslie Alejano, Bobby Domingo Sr., and Rome Vargas; barangay captains and their kagawads; heads of offices in the city, and Environment and Natural Resources Office personnel.*
