An estimated 1,000 adults, including senior citizens and more or less 500 children of Barangay 3 Poblacion in Sipalay City, availed of the free medical consultation, haircut and vitamins during the launch of the “Alejano Legacy Cares” (ALC) on July 1.
Barangay 3 kagawad Jescel “Nonoy” Alejano and his siblings Sipalay City Councilor Leslie “Cheche” Alejano and John Dexter “Toto” Alejano led the kick-off project that also enabled residents to get a free haircut courtesy of the Palasuelo Barbers.
Notebooks and snacks were given to the children by personnel of the Sipalay City Police Community Section which is among the partners of ALC in its various community outreach activities. Aside from the free consultation, senior citizens also received free reading eyeglasses and vitamins.
According to Nonoy Alejano, the medical mission was made possible because of the help of partners like the volunteer doctors headed by Dr. Randy and Dr. Eleanor Portigo, who are from Iloilo.
“Being a councilor and a registered nurse who has worked in the country and abroad, I continue with my advocacies like ‘Oplan Bantay Presyon’ and ‘Oplan Kontrol Diabetes’ not only in my beloved Barangay 3, but also in the 17 barangays of Sipalay,” Leslie said.
The Alejano Legacy Cares campaign is their way of honoring and keeping the legacy of their late father, Hon. Jesus Altura Alejano Jr., alive. The late punong barangay served the Barangay 3 Poblacion in Sipalay for over 45 years.
A charity bingo game was held in the afternoon of the same day. All residents of the said barangay were given free bingo cards for them to win sacks of rice and appliances as major prizes. The day culminated with residents being entertained by a live performance of the South Session Band. Iloilo Executives Club played as major sponsor of the whole-day event.*
