A two-day clearing operation in the fire-affected area of Barangay 27, Bacolod City, officially began yesterday.
The City Administrator’s Office, City Legal Office, City Engineer’s Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management office led the joint clearing operations, alongside other agencies.
“As promised, the city provided appropriate assistance, such as manpower and equipment. They [residents] requested to clear the area so they can return,” City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo said.
The clearing efforts will also include access roads to the area for easier entry and exit for emergencies.
“We will continue to work together for the recovery of Brgy. 27. We will rise from this, stronger together,” Mayor Greg Gasataya said in a social media post.
There is a push to establish a 3-meter main road, which is much wider than the previous footwalks that existed before the fire.
In addition, several homeowners have given clearance for the creation of an 8-meter entry point for heavy equipment needed for clearing.
Mayo said that if needed, the clearing operation will resume on Monday.*
