Six local government units (LGUs) in northern Negros Occidental yesterday cancelled classes due to bad weather spawned by a low pressure area and shear line.
Classes at all levels were suspended in EB Magalona, Manapla, Calatrava, and Don Salvador Benedicto, while classes in elementary and secondary levels were also canceled in Cadiz City.
In Sagay City, the Department of Education (DepEd) recommended that learners in island, river, and coastal areas stay home and refrain from going to school “if the conditions constitute any harm, risk or danger.”
“The DepEd Sagay City commits to prioritize everyone’s safety,” Schools Division Superintendent Marsette Sabaluca said in a statement.
State weather bureau PAGASA yesterday reported that the shear line affecting the eastern section of Visayas is expected to dump heavy rains.
In Western Visayas, the education department has recorded 1,096 schools that shifted to modular distance learning modality due to shear line affecting the eastern section of Visayas and northeast monsoon affecting Luzon.*
