Six persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) celebrated Christmas with their family and friends after they were released from Negros Occidental District Jail Male Dormitory (NODJ-MD) on Christmas evening, “allowing them to reunite with their families and begin a renewed chapter in their lives.”
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) Spokesman Atty. Juniven Umadsay disclosed that the released PDLs have fully served their sentences for their respective cases.
Cases include murder, reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, acts of lascivious conduct, dangerous drugs act, homicide, and grave threats.
“All released after serving their sentences with deductions from good conduct law. They were released after showing open and observable good conduct in the jail,” Umadhay explained.
Umadhay added that this moment marks not only their freedom but also an opportunity to rebuild relationships, restore dignity, and reintegrate into society as productive individuals.
“Spending Christmas Eve outside the jail walls serves as a powerful reminder that positive change is possible through good behavior, compliance with the law, and participation in rehabilitation programs,” BJMP-NIR said in a statement.
Each released individual underwent proper evaluation and clearance before being granted freedom.*
