The two suspected New People’s Army leaders who died in a series of encounters in Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, have pending arrest warrants for murder, according to a statement issued by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).
Charity Amacan, alias Cha, tagged as a former secretary of the dismantled South East Front (SEF) of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor, had 11 arrest warrants for murder; while Reniel Cellon, alias Kumpol, former commander of the dismantled SEF guerilla front, faced four counts of murder charges.
Their deaths are expected to significantly enhance the Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) of the NOCPPO, as charges filed against them are now classified as solved, bringing long-awaited justice to their victims through their identification and neutralization, said the provincial police director, PCol. Ranier de Chavez.
The NOCPPO statement further indicated that Mary Jane Maguilat, alias Shonie, former secretary of the dismantled KR-NCBS South West Front, “has been confirmed to have an arrest warrant for violating Batas Pambansa Blg. 881, as amended by Republic Act 7166, in relation to COMELEC Resolution No. 9561-A.”
NOCPPO is also undertaking a thorough validation process to determine whether the remaining four other slain rebels, identified as Jhon Isidor Supelanas, known as “Dalia;” alias Pitong; Jhunrey Mejares alias “Jai” and Glendel Tinio Mejares alias “Ayin” – have existing criminal records in Negros Occidental.*
