A 34-year-old theft suspect was apprehended after being assaulted by a crowd of bystanders in the downtown area of Bacolod City, following a snatching incident.
According to Police Station 1 Commander Police Major Rhondyl Tapang, the suspect, identified as alias ‘Jade,’ targeted alias ‘Ronan,’ 23, a resident of Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The stolen items included a mobile phone valued at P5,000 and a wallet containing P1,000 in cash.
While the alleged accomplice managed to flee the scene, Jade was cornered by witnesses.
Video footage of the incident showed a crowd of citizens physically assaulting the suspect.
A security guard present at the scene attempted to intervene but was unable to restrain the crowd.
Responding police officers subsequently took custody of the suspect.
Tapang revealed that the suspect has a history of prior offenses, with previous convictions and having served sentences for both snatching and robbery.
Authorities confirmed that Jade has undergone inquest proceedings and faces a criminal complaint for theft.*
