Solar power cuts BCGC monthly bill by P200K

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Mayor Greg Gasataya said that the solar power installation at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) has resulted in an average monthly reduction of P200,000 in electricity expenses.

The mayor provided this update following a meeting with the building administrator and the technical team responsible for the 2024 solar project.

While the monthly electricity bill for the government center remains over a million pesos, the photovoltaic system has consistently lowered the total cost.

He said that the primary focus of the city is now the full utilization of the power generated during weekends.

Currently, since government offices are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, the generated power is not fully utilized and currently cannot be fed back into the local grid.

He added that the energy generated during weekends is underutilized.

Gasataya said that the city government plans to meet with Negros Power to finalize technical concerns with the solar panel suppliers.*
