Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson turned over the solar-powered water system, worth P8 million, to Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. for the residents of Brgy. Orong in Kabankalan City, during the blessing and inauguration of the project yesterday in the barangay.
Zayco said he is grateful for the cooperation and unity of the stakeholders, adding that “using the sun’s energy for the water system is a cost-efficient alternative to help and accelerate the development of the Brgy. Orong community.”
There is a need to maintain the solar panels with utmost care since the water system would provide the basic needs of the 300 households in the barangay, a press release from the city said.
Former Rep. Mercedes Alvarez, CPSU president Aladdino Moraca, KCWD general manager Ricardo Regalia, and P/Lt. Col. Mary Rose Salve Pico were among those who attended the event.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways also turned over an isolation/healing facility in Barangay Tabugon to Zayco on Feb. 13.
The facility has 16 fully air-conditioned rooms, a nurse room, utility room, and male and female quarters with comfort rooms. Construction started on Nov. 10 and was finished on Jan. 23.*
