An Army soldier was reported by the police to have died as result of a vehicular crash on July 6 at the national highway of Crossing Ambush in Brgy. Manalad, Ilog, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified by the Ilog police as PFC John Leo Saldua, a member of the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion, was declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan.
Saldua succumbed to fatal head and left leg injuries, according to the police.
Initial police investigations indicated that Saldua, who was driving a blue Yamaha motorcycle, tried to overtake a tricycle, when he collided head on with a Ceres Liner passenger bus that was traveling in the opposite direction.
His head slammed into the windshield of the passenger bus, where his body was dragged for about 10 meters, according to the Ilog police.
The driver of the Ceres Liner passenger bus identified as Ryan Miraveles is now under the custody of the Ilog Police Station, including the issued firearm and personal belongings of the Army soldier.*
