Soldier faces attempted murder charge

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A member of the Philippine Army is in hot water after he allegedly tried to kill his commanding officer on January 10, at Camp General Fullon in Barangay San Fernando, San Jose, Antique.

The suspect, identified as Cpl. Rey Gualberto Jr., is now detained at the police custodian facility in Antique.

Gualberto, according to initial investigations of the San Jose Police Station in Antique, shot Maj. Rodillo Famulag, of Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City, several times, hitting the latter on his left hand.

The suspect, who immediately fled after the shooting incident, later surrendered to the Antique Police Provincial Office, where he was endorsed to the San Jose Police Station, for detention.

Police investigation showed that the shooting incident took place after he was ordered by Famulag, commander of the 602nd Community Defense Center of the 6th Regional Community Defense Group, Philippine Army Reserve Command, to perform physical exercises inside the camp.

Famulag said that Gualberto, who is assigned at the 602nd CDC, 6RCDG, is undergoing inquest proceedings for attempted murder charges.*
