An Army soldier and a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) were both killed after being shot by two motorcycle-riding suspects on Tuesday in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Makiling, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
1Lt. Fevie Fajardo, 79th Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operations chief, disclosed last night that the two victims were on board a motorcycle, on their way to a public market, when they were shot by the gunmen who were riding in another motorcycle.
Fajardo identified the victims as Army Corporal Robert Dador, 48, assistant detachment commander, and CAFGU member Johnery Mongcatar, 26, both assigned at a military outpost in Sitio Hwebesan, Brgy. Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City.
While they are not ruling out the possibility that the incident may have been insurgency-related, Fajardo, however, said that the firearm of the fallen soldier and his personal belongings, as well as that of the unarmed CAFGU member, were not taken by their attackers.
Both were on duty when the gun attack took place, she added
The helmet-wearing suspects were reported to have been riding a black Aerox motorcycle as they fled the scene of the incident.
The Philippine Army is now coordinating with the Sagay City Police Station to unmask the identities of the suspects and to determine the motive of the shooting incident.*
