An Army soldier died after he was allegedly shot dead by his colleague on Monday night inside a military outpost at Sitio Barasbarasan in Barangay Manlocahoc, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
The 36-year-old victim, of Iloilo City, whose identity was withheld by the police, died while being treated at the Sipalay Infirmary, while the 43-year-old suspect, of Lanao del Norte, is now under the custody of the Sipalay police.
The shooting incident took place as both the victim and suspect, both members of the 15th Infantry Battalion, figured in a commotion while attending a colleague’s birthday celebration inside the military outpost.
Initial investigations of the Sipalay police indicated that the suspect shot the victim in his left arm and then the bullet penetrated into his chest, following a misunderstanding between the two as they were having a drinking spree.
The suspect was immediately disarmed by his commanding officer, before being turned over to the Sipalay police for detention.*
