While commemorating the All Soul’s Day on November 2, after taking a day to rest from combat operations, Army soldiers successfully assisted a mother deliver a healthy baby boy inside the headquarters of the 79th Infantry Battalion.
The mother, while on her way to a hospital in Sagay City, on board the tricycle of her husband, realized that her baby was arriving sooner than expected.
She urged her husband to make an emergency stop at the 79IB headquarters in Barangay Bato, Sagay City, to seek help and assistance.
Responding to the emergency situation, members of the 79IB medical team guided the couple and quickly prepared to support the mother in her delivery.
With calm and steady assistance, the 79th “Masaligan” Battalion troopers helped her bring a healthy baby boy into the world at their headquarters, said its commander, Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan.
To ensure that both the mother and the newborn were safe, the 79IB coordinated with the Sagay City Emergency Medical Team to bring them to the hospital for further medical care and management.
Reflecting on the very touching moment, Calaoagan shared, “It’s a very honorable privilege for us to serve as protectors in both life-threatening situations and life-giving moments.”
“The distinct honor of helping welcome this new life is something none of us will forget. This reminds us that our commitment to serve goes beyond military duty, extending to caring for our community in every possible way”, he stressed.
The newborn infant was called by the responding troopers and medical responders as the “Masaligan Baby”.*
