Patrolling Army soldiers encountered about seven suspected members of the New People’s Army on October 6 in Barangay Macasilao, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Brig. Gen. Orlando Edralin, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, disclosed on Sunday that a running gunbattle lasted about six minutes, followed by remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front scampering in various directions.
He added that no Army soldiers were injured, while it was undetermined if the rebel side incurred any casualties.
Soldiers of the 79th Infantry Battalion are still pursuing the fleeing rebels as of last night.*
