The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) has recommended one if its local members in Bacolod City as replacement for the late Councilor Elmer Sy in the City Council, Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said yesterday.
Familiaran said the NPC has recommended Marlon Solidum, also a member of NPC who is running for councilor of Bacolod in the 2022 elections under Grupo Progreso (GP), to replace Sy who passed away last June 25.
Solidum said he is just waiting for the approval of the Office of the President of his documents before formally taking over the place of Sy, also a member of NPC, in the City Council of Bacolod City.
He said the local members of GP, who were formerly members of the NPC in Bacolod, held a meeting last September 20 to decide on who should be Sy’s replacement. This was before they took their oath under the Nationalist Party (NP).
The recommendation of the local NPC will be sent to the national NPC before this will be forwarded to the Office of the President for President Rodrigo Duterte to sign, he added.
Solidum said that once his endorsement is approved by the President, he will try his best to perform in the City Council and legislate laws despite the limited time he is given to serve, which is until the end of June.
Meanwhile, Bacolod Election Officer Kathrina Caña said the continuing registration of voters is ongoing at SM City-Bacolod from October 11 to 13.
Caña said this will be transferred to the Ayala Malls Capitol Central from October 14, 18 and 19; and to Robinson’s Place- Bacolod on October 20, 21, and 22.
She said they are waiting for confirmation from the University of St. La Salle if they can use its coliseum for the registration of voters from Oct. 25 to 30.*
