Separate road crashes in southern Negros Occidental resulted in the death of a motorist in La Carlota, while an elderly pedestrian was critically injured in Isabela on Thursday.
In La Carlota City, a 38-year-old motorist, alias ‘JM,’ died after falling into a concrete canal beside the National Highway in Barangay Cubay.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was traveling from Barangay Haguimit toward the city proper when he lost control of his motorcycle and fell into the concrete canal. As a result, he sustained multiple injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, in Isabela, a 73-year-old pedestrian was critically injured after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing the National Highway at Sitio Banang, Hacienda Alicante, Barangay Bungahin.
Initial reports indicate that the motorcycle, driven by a 61-year-old, was traveling from Barangay Crossing Magallon toward Isabela proper when the pedestrian unexpectedly appeared from a sugar cane plantation.
The motorist did not notice the pedestrian and hit him.
The victim sustained injuries to his forehead, the right portion of his jaw, and a fractured left leg, while the driver also sustained injuries on various parts of his body.
Both the motorist and the pedestrian were immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment.*
