SP asks BTAO: Ensure road marking maintenance

• CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

A resolution respectfully requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), through City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, to repaint and rehabilitate road markings and pedestrian lanes to ensure the safety of motorist and pedestrians, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Raymundo Puentevella said Section 15 of Article II of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides that the State shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them.

Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991 provides that the Local Government Units shall exercise the powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom, as well as powers necessary, appropriate, or incidental for its efficient and effective governance, and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare.

The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office is the department mandated by law to implement traffic laws and ordinances of the City of Bacolod, it said.

Some road markings and pedestrian lanes are in need of repair and repainting due to wear and tear in order to ensure the safety of the pedestrians and motorists, thus the BTAO is being requested to undertake the same, the resolution added.*
