The Bacolod Sangguniang is urging the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) thru the office of Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to provide the SP a list of all city scholars with their corresponding latest grade point average.

The resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang is also urging the PESO and City Mayor’s Office to strictly implement Section 10 of City Ordinance No. 102, series of 1993, or “An ordinance providing an educational grant for poor but deserving students.”

The ordinance to be known as “The Bacolod Educational Scholarship Program”, was passed last August 25, 1993 to provide financial assistance to poor and deserving students to help them finish a college degree and become a contributor in the city’s labor force and economy, it said.

Section 10 of the ordinance provides that it is the responsibility and obligation of the scholar beneficiary to maintain a grade point average not lower than 85 percent for degree course and 80 percent for technical course, the resolution said.

There have been reports that there are scholars who have not complied with the academic grade requirement pursuant to the ordinance specifically Section 10, but remain as beneficiary under the same scholarship program, it said.

It is just and proper for the City Government of Bacolod to strictly monitor and implement all the provisions of the said ordinance to correctly effect the purpose of the same and grant only the financial assistance to those who rightfully deserve it, the resolution added.*
