A resolution enjoining all schools within the jurisdiction of the Bacolod City Schools Division to seriously participate in the celebration of Bible Week in Bacolod City from January 23 to 30, was unanimously approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
Bacolod Councilor Renecito Novero, author of the resolution, said “We hope that the celebration will open up more spiritual realization of our relation with our Creator and therefore, will inspire more service and commitment from our youth who will be future leaders of our nation.”
Novero recalled that he authored City Ordinance 433 or “An ordinance institutionalizing the city-wide celebration of the Bible Week in the City of Bacolod,” over a decade ago when he first became a city councilor.
When he returned as vice mayor and later as councilor, the SP institutionalized the celebration and it was a very meaningful and productive one, he said.
This time, they will celebrate it again with prizes in store. Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya and Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez have committed to provide the funding he had requested, Novero said.
“I also wrote Bacolod City Schools Division Supt. Reynaldo Gico Monday, beseeching him to enjoin and encourage participation of all schools within his jurisdiction,” he said.
The Pillars of Fire will hold a concert at the main atrium of SM City-Bacolod on January 27, and there will also be Bible quizzes, Bible story-telling and several other competitions during the celebration to be participated in by the students, Novero added.*
