The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the City Treasurer’s Office, through Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, to conduct inspection, calibration and sealing of weighing scales and measuring instruments used in trade and commerce in all public markets in Bacolod City.
The request was made through a resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella that was approved by the SP Wednesday.
The rapid increase of market goods and commodities brought by global inflation had caused consumers to tighten their budget, the resolution said.
The conduct of ocular inspections among the various market in Bacolod City will secure the proper calibration and proper measurements of weighing scales that can prevent unfair and deceptive sales acts and practices, it said.
The resolution said the proper calibration and sealing of such measuring scale and instruments will protect the general public against unscrupulous trade practices.
The SP also approved a resolution strongly supporting the letter of Benitez addressed to Dr. Maria Rosario Singh Vergeire of the Department of Health (DOH), expressing the intention of the City of Bacolod to be one of the Universal Healthcare Integration Sites (UHC-IS).
The resolution also authored by Puentevella said the City of Bacolod, represented by Benitez, signified its intent to be one of the advance implementer cities of Republic Act 11223, or The Universal Health Care Act.
R.A. 11223 was enacted pursuant to the policy of the state to protect and promote the right to health of all Filipinos and instill health consciousness among them, it said.
The resolution said the Universal Health Care Act mandates that every Filipino will be granted immediate eligibility and access to promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care for medical, dental, mental and emergency health services. It also decrees that the program membership for the National Health Insurance Program be simplified to direct contributors and indirect contributors.*
