SP supports Bacolod Circular Biohubs

• CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

A resolution supporting and commending the Bacolod Circular Biohubs for conducting pre-orientation seminar on waste management at La Consolacion College Amistad to different barangays in Bacolod City, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The seminar was attend by representatives from barangays 1, 8, Sum-ag, Pahanocoy, Tangub, Handumanan, and Ayala Malls collectors, BIOFLYT Agriventures, Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation, Inc., TESDA, LCC Bacolod, GIZ Philippines, and other participating project partners, with Maria Carmela Cabreros as training coordinator and Mariecor Palapas, as project manager.

Authored by Councilor Homer Bais, the resolution said that under the said project, a series of trainings on converting food waste into protein-rich biomass or black soldier fly technology, African night crawler vermi-composting, had been conducted to produce soil enhancers and strengthen urban gardens to support household food needs, community-based enterprise, reduced hauling pressure to landfill, and generally cleaner surroundings.

The project puts emphasis on gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), by recognizing that waste management work often involves sectors that are economically vulnerable but deeply knowledgeable about community waste systems, and aims to ensure that benefits are not limited to technical experts or institutions and decentralize Biohubs in project sites across Bacolod City, it said.*
