A resolution urging Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to strongly consider allocating funds for the renovation, improvement, and building of additional graves for the Handumanan Public Cemetery, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
The resolution authored by Councilor Israel Salanga, chairman of the SP Committee on Government Assets, said the Handumanan Public Cemetery is a property owned by the local government of Bacolod City and is considered as one of its assets.
The Handumanan Public Cemetery is located just beside the main road of Barangay Handumanan and can be easily viewed by the public, it said.
The present or current problem of the Handumanan Public Cemetery is the lack of a foot walk, making it uncomfortable for the public to enter the said cemetery, especially when it rains. It also lacks lighting facilities, which makes it not safe to visit during night time, as well as help enhance its overall unaesthetic to the public’s view, the resolution said.
It is high time to renovate, improve and beautify the Handumanan Public Cemetery in order to remedy the abovementioned problems of the said cemetery, it said.
The resolution said there are very limited graves which the people from the said area can avail, thus there is a need to allocate additional budget or funds every year to construct more graves so that many people who do not have the means can benefit, the resolution added.*
