Speaker highlights gratitude, reflection, ahead of holidays

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday urged his colleagues and staff of the House of Representatives to embrace the holiday season with gratitude, reflection, and a spirit of giving, while acknowledging their vital contributions to the institution and the nation, a press release from the House of Representatives said.

Speaking during the House’s flag-raising ceremony, Romualdez highlighted the importance of taking time to appreciate life’s blessings and giving back to those in need.

“As Christmas draws near, we’re reminded that this season is not just about celebrations, but about reflection, gratitude, and the spirit of giving,” the Speaker said. “It’s a time to pause and appreciate what truly matters—our families, our friends, and the opportunities we’ve had to serve others.”

The leader of the 307-strong House of Representatives urged his colleagues and the entire legislative workforce to extend their generosity to less fortunate Filipinos, especially those impacted by recent calamities and tragedies.

“Christmas is a time of joy, but for many of our fellow Filipinos—especially those affected by calamities or tragedies—this season can be a struggle. We are in a unique position to make a difference,” he said.

He urged everyone to engage in meaningful acts of kindness, whether through small gestures or organized efforts to support those in need.

“Let us remember that the true spirit of Christmas is found in giving and sharing. Whether it’s a small act of kindness, lending a helping hand, or contributing to efforts that bring relief and hope to those in need, we can all do something meaningful. By working together, we can help make this season brighter for others, even in the smallest ways,” the Speaker said.

He continued, “I know that many of you already go out of your way to support your communities, and for that, I commend you. This year, let’s amplify that generosity. Let us be a source of light and hope not just for our own families but for others who may be facing difficult times.”

Romualdez also extended heartfelt thanks to the House employees, praising their unwavering dedication and behind-the-scenes work.

At the same time, he reminded the men and women of the legislative chamber to focus on self-care and spending time with their families during the holidays.

As the year draws to a close, Romualdez assured employees that their contributions have been noticed and appreciated.

The House chief ended his speech with a call for joy, generosity, and unity as the House continues its work to serve the Filipino people.*
