A suspect in a stabbing incident was shot and injured after he attacked a policeman on Sunday at Rizal Street in Barangay 3, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
The stabbing suspect identified as Roy Mosquera, 21, armed with two knives, suffered a gunshot wound in the left knee after he was shot by PCpl. Nelson Caballero, whom he attacked.
Prior to the incident, Mosquera, alias Bulljack, allegedly stabbed Jomenel Sotes, 21, inside the latter’s residence.
Mosquera was brought by the police to the San Carlos City Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound.
As part of PNP’s standard operating procedures, PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region, said an impartial investigation will conducted to determine whether any violations were committed by responding personnel during the operation.
“We are committed to transparency and due process. Any lapses in judgment or deviations from protocol will be addressed accordingly,” according to PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR regional director.
Ibay also reiterated his standing directive for all personnel, especially tactical responders, to consistently wear bulletproof vests and other protective gear.
“Situations like these remind us of the unpredictable nature of law enforcement duties. We must protect our men and women in uniform. Wearing proper protective equipment is not just a regulation, it’s a life-saving measure,” he stressed.
Mosquera faces charges for frustrated murder and direct assault on a person in authority.*
