Bago City Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao is taking steps toward restoring public confidence in the city’s healthcare system through a renewed partnership with the Department of Health – Negros Island Region Center for Health and Development (DOH-NIR-CHD).

On July 24, Mayor Javellana-Yao welcomed representatives from the DOH-NIR-CHD, led by Assistant Regional Director Adrian Hort Ramos, for a consultation meeting focused on strengthening healthcare services, particularly at the Bago City Hospital.

According to Ramos, the DOH, in collaboration with the city government, is preparing to construct a new hospital equipped with modern facilities and designed to be more resilient to flooding. The long-term vision is to upgrade the facility into a Level 2 hospital.

The DOH also shared plans to pursue the licensing of the birth facility in Barangay Ma-ao, with the aim of transforming it into a Bagong Pilipinas Health Center offering broader services. In addition, a budget has been allocated to provide more resources to the Super Health Center in Barangay Atipuluan.

It may be recalled that earlier this year, concerns were raised by residents regarding the condition and services of the existing Bago City Hospital. The incident drew attention to the urgent need for improvement in the city’s healthcare system, prompting a reevaluation of priorities by the local government.

Javellana-Yao expressed her appreciation to the DOH for its continued support and emphasized that the city’s renewed efforts reflect its commitment to ensuring quality and accessible healthcare for all Bagonhons. “We are looking forward to better healthcare in Bago City,” she said, describing the developments as a source of renewed hope for the community.

Present during the meeting were City Health Officer Dr. Ferdinand Ramon Mayoga, Bago City Hospital Chief Dr. Jesus Rey Pacilan, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and key officials from DOH-NIR-CHD.*
