The Climate Reality Project Philippines mobilized local governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector on Tuesday, for a multi-stakeholder consultation in Bacolod City.

The consultation, dubbed as ‘Reimagine NDC’, seeks to foster a shared responsibility with the participants in the goal of strengthening the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

In addition, it aims to bridge the gap between national and local climate goals.

“I think we need a whole-of-society approach. The NDC implementation should not be done by just one side, but we should all be working together towards the same goal, all the while accepting that we have differing roles to play in achieving that goal,” Department of Energy and Natural Resources Science Research Specialist II Rolanda Abad Jr. said.

Energy Policy and Planning Bureau of Department of Energy Michael Sinocruz emphasized that NDC is a shared commitment and not just a government document.

Participants included representatives from the Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, cities of Cadiz, Victorias, and Bacolod, as well as students and members of Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment.

The Mindanao leg of the consultation will be on August 8, at Davao City.*
