The STI West Negros University inked its partnership with the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, afternoon of June 28.
According to a press release, STIWNU Executive Vice President Ryan Mark Molina and MBCCI Chief Executive Officer Frank Carbon signed the memorandum of agreement in the corporate office conference room of the university.
Mima Villanueva, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Business Management and Accountancy said, the signing of the memorandum of agreement sealed the partnership between STIWNU and MBCCI in helping educate, train and equip future professionals with relevant foundational knowledge, skills and moral principles that will make them relevant to the needs of the different industries.
Villanueva said the partnership provides the academe and the industry a venue to share resources in conducting co-curricular activities such as trainings, lectures, consultations, fora, career orientation, advocacy campaigns, on-the-job trainings and related endeavors to bridge the gap between what academic institutions produce in terms of graduates and the manpower needs of the industry.
Both parties will be collaborating in order to update and enrich tertiary, graduate and postgraduate programs, update faculty and students with first-hand information on current business trends and practices.
“It is stipulated in the MOA that the MBCCI will also provide inputs as an industry partner in the offering of new and existing academic programs in the tertiary, graduate and postgraduate levels, designing the curricula and in its subsequent review and revisions,” said Villanueva.
Carbon thanked the university for reaching out to them and acknowledging the help the organization can extend to the institution and its faculty and students.
“For a long, long time, the business sector is handicapped on a manpower side because our Academe failed to reach out to the manpower, skills and knowledge needs of businesses. But this time, the STI West Negros University developed some kind of partnership where the business and the Academe can in one boat, rowing together, trying to reach the same destination – the socioeconomic growth which should be sustainable. It can only be sustainable if businesses have good people, which is our greatest asset, who are capable of delivering the goods and services and sell it to the public,” explained Carbon.
For his part, Molina considers the MOA signing a step towards the realization of the dream for the College of Business Management and Accountancy to be a Center of Excellence.
“We just can’t stand alone. We need the expertise of MBCCI to guide the way we educate our students in Business. This will help us ensure that the competence we teach are aligned with what the industry needs to realize our mission of producing quality graduates who will not only join the workforce soon, but will become leaders of the organizations they will belong to,” said Molina.
The signing of the MOA was realized through the efforts of the Master in Public Administration and Doctor in Public Administration Programs that belong to the CBMA.*
