A day after it was stolen, the monstrance from the Adoration Chapel inside the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City, which was taken, was returned.

The stolen monstrance was left behind early Sunday of December 31, just several hours after it was stolen at about 6:25 p.m. of Dec. 30.

The incident was announced by the San Sebastian Cathedral in its official Facebook account on Saturday, when the chapel caretaker noticed it was missing from the altar.

Justin Arca, secretary of the Commission on the liturgy of the Diocese of Bacolod, disclosed that the suspect in the incident was already identified, as he was seen by the grandson of the chapel caretaker.

Based on their own investigation, Arca said the suspect entered through the chapel entrance, immediately took the monstrance, and hid it in his clothes.

The suspect is also reported to have been frequently visiting the chapel.

PMaj. Elmer Bonilla, Bacolod City Police Station 1 chief, disclosed that the monstrance is made of precious metals.*
