A total of 105 fishing boats were either damaged or destroyed by strong waves and winds in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, as the shear line and northeast monsoon affected weather conditions across Negros Island over the weekend.
In a report dated January 4, which was submitted to Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., the Office of City Agriculturist indicated damage valued at P1,925,000 to fishing boats in coastal barangays of Tiglawigan, Banquerohan, Cadiz Viejo, Zones 2,4 and 5, as well as Sicaba and Daga, all in Cadiz City
Several fishing boats were also reported to have been damaged by strong waves in Brgy. Punta Mesa, Manapla.
Nine fishing boats were reported to have been damaged in Brgy. Tomongtong, E.B. Magalona, based on reports of its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Mayor Mika Escalante called on the affected fisherfolk in Manapla to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture for possible assistance.
Thirty-four families, composed of 126 individuals, in barangays 2 poblacion, Batea and Manta-angan in E.B. Magalona were affected by flooding.
A total of 14 houses were also damaged in barangays of Batea, Tomongtong and as well the seawall in Manta-angan, in the town.*
