Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya and Sum-ag Barangay Captain Rodney Carmona led the blessing and inauguration of the P20 million Sum-ag River floodwall and esplanade projects in Sum-ag, Bacolod City during the barangay’s 19th Martesan Festival yesterday.

Gasataya said the P20 million funds for the construction of the floodwall project in Purok San Jose 1, Sum-ag was sourced from the 2020 budget of the national government.

The esplanade is just an additional component of the 490-meter floodwall project which will benefit residents of seven flood-prone puroks in the barangay, he said.

Carmona thanked the solon for the projects saying these will greatly help many residents of Sum-ag not only in terms of flood control but this will also boost tourism.

He said the floodwalls will help protect residents of Puroks Mabinuligon, Nami-Nami 2, San Jose 1, Providence, Fatima, Sto. Niño and San Miguel that are located along the river bank especially during typhoons.

Gasataya said this is just the first phase of the project since there will be additional funds next year for the continuation of the floodwall and esplanade up to the Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, he said.

The first esplanade, whose construction was facilitated by his office, is located near the Bacolod City Government Center, he said.*
