The Land Transportation Office – Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) has issued a show-cause order to the operator of a modernized jeepney following an incident involving passenger overloading in Bacolod City.
The order requires the MBMJ and UY Transport Services, Inc. to formally explain the events captured on video last January 27, outside the Panaad Park and Stadium.
Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed the issuance of the order and emphasized that the city government is working closely with the LTO to ensure that public utility vehicles adhere to safety and service standards.
The directive compels the operator to report to the regional office in Barangay Mansilingan within five days to submit a verified written explanation regarding the alleged violations.
Gasataya said that a separate show cause order will be issued to the driver and the conductor.
He added that the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department will also impose their own penalties.
The inquiry focuses on multiple breaches of Republic Act No. 4136, specifically targeting the issues of overcapacity and reckless driving that were documented.
The show-cause order also addressed the discourteous conduct of the conductor during a recorded exchange with a passenger.
Should the operator fail to respond to the show-cause order within the designated five-day period, the LTO-NIR will proceed with administrative penalties.
The sanctions may include fines, the suspension of the vehicle’s registration, or a recommendation for the revocation of the franchise.*
