Super city needs super power supply – Sancho

The vision of making Bacolod City, a “super city” as highlighted in the State of the City Address (SOCA) of Mayor Albee Benitez, is highly commendable, said a press release from Power Watch Negros.

It said that according to Benitez, a supercity needs super people but super people do not need super power, but a passion to serve, which is true. However, in terms of material accomplishment, the bedrock of progress and development in industry, communication, transportation etc., is a robust, reliable, efficient and affordable power supply.

A super city needs a super power supply which implies Power Supply Reliability (PSR) which is the ability of the distribution utility to perform its intended function-the service of bringing appropriate load requirements of every household, industry and commercial establishment. It is the most important link that connects the consumers to the source of power.

The creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR), will pave the way for tremendous economic progress and development that would propel Bacolod City to become a centerpiece of excellence and claim prominence as the supercity of NIR.

It added that the emergence and participation of the Negros Electric Power Corporation or Negros Power as the major stake holder in the energy sector is providential, followed by favorable circumstances of the signing of its franchise by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Negros Power shall provide the power requirement to accommodate the bustling economy in its franchise area.

Promising trends in innovations and investment buoyed by the territorial expansion of NIR. The “economy of scale” will motivate Negros Power to fulfill its mission to provide quality services along with innovative approaches that sets new standards for quality services, promoting customers satisfaction through digitalization.

I also claimed that Negros Power will meet emerging customers’ needs with its revolutionary approach to power outage management. To serve an emerging super city Negros Power will provide super service as a distribution utility in line with the vision for a supercity in the future.

Power Watch Negros Secretary General Wennie Sancho supported the statement of Mayor Albee Benitez that the race to a supercity is not a sprint but a marathon, a long-term project.

Power Watch Negros wholeheartedly supports the plans for a supercity. In line with its advocacy to advance the welfare of the electricity consumers, we believe customers’ perception of power quality reliability will increase significantly if there are representatives from the DU explaining accounts and payments of their monthly bills.

This would help affect the negative effect of a possible rate increase in electricity if there is a fora on awareness of energy efficiency and conservation. We are looking forward for a consumers’ education program by Negros Power in the future, the statement concluded.*
