Today, the Visayan DAILY STAR is proud to announce that we are celebrating our 39th year of service to the Negrense community, making our little local newspaper that started operations on April 12, 1982 among the country’s oldest.
Aside from the length of service, the staff and management of the Visayan DAILY STAR has taken pride in the quality of the news and information we have delivered every day, almost without fail. Our longevity is a byproduct of the quality of our journalism that has earned the trust and support of the community we serve and, as we celebrate our anniversary today, we remain committed to maintaining, or maybe even exceeding the quality of service we have delivered over the years.
Of all the years your DAILY STAR has been in existence, 2020 has been the most difficult. The unthinkable had to be done when the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to temporarily stop operations. At that point, nobody would’ve blamed us for giving up and shutting down permanently. However, due to public demand and the indomitable spirit of the hearts and souls of this local newspaper that has surpassed numerous challenges and defied the odds, we were back to service the Negrense community after 10 days.
The monumental challenges of 2020 that all of us somehow survived give us great reason to be in a thankful, celebratory and optimistic mood as the Visayan DAILY STAR celebrates its 39th anniversary. The challenges remain and the coming months could be as difficult but as we all strive to survive, we remain positive and are looking forward to working with our friends, partners, and supporters in the community and thriving once more, hopefully, in the near future.
The previous year and the pandemic taught us all many lessons but for a local newspaper like your DAILY STAR, it is the value of our community that has given us reason to continue despite the odds and be here today.
As we look forward to more years of service to the Negrense community, we would like to thank our readers, advertisers, partners, and supporters who are the reason we are celebrating 39 years of service and are in a position to look forward to at least another 39 years more. Let us continue supporting each other as we endure these challenging times so when things finally start to look up, our communities can go beyond survival mode and begin to thrive once again.*
