A 47-year-old construction worker from Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City succumbed to suspected leptospirosis on July 22, records from the Bacolod City Health Office said.
The patient was admitted to a hospital on the same day, after experiencing difficulty breathing. Records showed that he had a history of wading in flood water and became ill on July 17.
If confirmed, it will bring to four the total number of deaths due to leptospirosis in Bacolod City.
The total number of cases of leptospirosis recorded in the city is 11, covering the period January 1 to July 27. This is a decrease of 78.4 percent compared to cases last year, covering the same period. However, there were six recorded deaths last year.
The barangays with the highest number of cases are Barangays 35 and Pahanocoy with two cases each, as well as Barangays Alijis, Punta-Taytay, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, Mandalagan, Felisa and Brgy. 6 with one case each.*
