Talisay City Mayor Atty. Rowena “Weng” Lopez Lizares led on January 5 the opening of the Talisay City Agriculture and Fisheries Council (CAFC) Showroom, a project designed to bring local produce closer to consumers while strengthening the city’s agricultural backbone.
Strategically located in front of the Talisay City Hall, the showroom is more than just a marketplace, Lizares said.
It is a platform where the hard work of Talisaynons who till the land and harvest the sea is given direct access to the public, free from layers of middlemen that often diminish farmers’ earnings, she said.
In a statement, Lizares underscored that empowering farmers and fisherfolk is central to building a resilient and self-sustaining community.
By providing them with a dedicated space to sell fresh, high-quality vegetables and farm products at affordable prices, the city government ensures fair income for producers while making nutritious food accessible to families, she said.
“This is about valuing the people who feed our city,” the mayor added, noting that supporting local agriculture is a vital step toward food security and inclusive growth.
The showroom reflects the city’s commitment to policies that put people first—especially those whose livelihoods are most vulnerable. The initiative also strengthens the city’s campaign to promote locally grown and proudly Talisaynon products.
Each purchase made at the CAFC Showroom directly supports local farmers and fisherfolk, creating a cycle of economic activity that benefits the wider community.
Lizares also encouraged the public to visit the Talisay City Agriculture and Fisheries Council Showroom, choose fresh and affordable local products, and take part in a growing movement that proves when communities buy local, they help their own people thrive.*
