The City of Talisay won second place in the Manila Times Philippine Model Cities and Municipalities Awards, in the Food Security Enabler Category, on September 19, at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, according to a press release from Talisay PIO.
Out of 27 cities that competed in the category, Talisay’s Tiempos Muertos program landed second place for its significant impact on local food security. The initiative is part of the city’s broader efforts to build a smart, sustainable, and resilient community under the leadership of Mayor Neil Lizares.
Tiempos Muertos is a Food-for-Work Program started by the Talisay City Agriculture Office in 2022 that provides vital employment opportunities in exchange for food allowance. Since its implementation, the program has reached 3,300 beneficiaries.*
