The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Union – Negros Island Region and the Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation (BCPSTF) will hold a press conference today in time for National Teachers’ Month, to sound the alarm on the worsening plight of teachers in Negros Island and across the country.
Despite their central role in shaping the nation’s future, teachers remain underpaid, overworked, and underserved by the government. At the press conference, ACT Union NIR and BCPSTF will launch the Teachers’ Wishlist: a concrete set of urgent demands that include: 50,000 entry-level salary for Teacher I; substantial increase in the national education budget; expanded health and welfare benefits for teachers; and living wage for all.
The press conference will be preceded by a teachers’ caravan starting at 7 a.m. from the New Government Center and culminating at Bacolod City National High School, amplifying the unity and urgency of teachers’ calls for just wages and a pro-people education system.
The press conference will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation Office (second floor), Rosario Street, Bacolod City.
It will be hosted by ACT Union NIR and Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation.
Teachers are calling on the government to match words of praise with concrete action.*
