Revenge could be the motive in the killing of a teenager, who was shot while he was sitting in a tricycle beside the road in Brgy. 35, Bacolod City, at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, P/Major Ramel Sarona said yesterday.

Sarona, who is the chief of the Bacolod Police Station 1, said the victim, 17, whose name was withheld for being a minor, of Purok Mahiliugyon in the barangay, succumbed to gunshot wounds in his head and neck while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

The victim’s neighbor, Frolinda Ardiente, 72, was hit by a stray bullet in her right arm and was also rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center but is now out of danger, Sarona added.

Investigation conducted by P/SSgt. Yves Eduardo Tiangson showed that the lone gunman, wearing cargo short pants and a black jacket and had a facemask, approached and shot the victim without any provocation, then rode off on a black motorcycle driven by a man wearing a red and grey sweatshirt, and escaped towards the east from Brgy. 35.

Three cartridges and a deformed bullet of what is believed to be from a .9 millimeter revolver were recovered at the crime scene. Police Station 1 operatives will ask for a copy of a video of the closed-circuit television camera from a nearby establishment.

POLICE RECORDS

Sarona told the DAILY STAR that the victim was facing several complaints for stealing and breaking into houses, not just in Brgy. 35 but also in other areas of Bacolod. A week ago, a resident of Brgy. 35 lodge a complaint against him for allegedly stealing money, he added.

Sarona noted the victim was the brother of one of the two suspects, who had set on fire the Java Pension House in November 2019 that resulted in the death of six people. His father is also engaged in illegal drugs and illegal gambling, the police said.

The victim did not belong to an organized group but, most of the time, he operated with his friends and this could be the reason why he was killed, Sarona said.

MANAPLA STABBING

In Manapla town, Negros Occidental, Nathaniel Cabahug, 48, died Sunday while being treated at the Dr. Ramon Gustilo Hospital from a lone stab wound in the chest.

P/Lt. Leonel Adolacion, deputy chief of the Manapla police, said Cabahug, of Yolanda Housing Project in Brgy. Santa Teresita, and the suspects Arnold and Albert Castillano, had a fight that led to the stabbing incident.

It was not immediately established who stabbed Cabahug and the investigation and manhunt operation against the Castillanos were ongoing as this was written.*
