The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting respective private sectors – Globe, Smart, Dito Communications, and those analogous to them, to set up assistance booths for purposes of SIM registration at the Bacolod City Government Center.

The resolution authored by Councilor Jason Villarosa said Republic Act No.11934, or the Sim Registration Act was signed by the President on Oct. 10, 2022 and has been passed into law.

The intent of Congress is apparent and relevant after considering the rise of multifarious incidents of unlawful actuations by means of cellular communications, it said.

This law will curtail illegal transactions, fraudulent machinations, and all related to the phishing or stealing of personal details of citizens and on the other hand, promote transparency and truthfulness in all conducts and transactions within all cellular networks in the country, the resolution said.

It has been observed, however, that not all members of the society are adept in technology and devices, not to mention the creation of electronic mails, it said.

It is for this reason that the constituents of Bacolod and stakeholders may need assistance, the resolution added.*
