Joint operations of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Maritime Command personnel and the local police against illegal fishing, led to the arrest of more than 20 suspects in various coastal areas of Negros Occidental, Thursday to Saturday.
Crew members of seven of the 10 intercepted fishing boats were apprehended in the territorial waters of EB Magalona Thursday.
Mayor Marvin Malacon thanked the BFAR, Maritime Command and the Bantay Dagat of EB Magalona for their vigilance in the campaign against illegal fishing.
Five other fishermen were arrested by members of the Bantay Dagat for illegal fishing in the territorial waters of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, Saturday.
Nabbed were Arlon Trias, JR Abenio, Raul Sellado, Alvin and Archie Alegata, all residents of Brgy. Tagda, Hinigaran town, who are crew members of the two fishing boats intercepted by the Bantay Dagat for illegal fishing.
Three other fishermen, identified as Junel Saravia, and Reno and Roberto Giganto, were also arrested for illegal fishing in the territorial waters of Bago City, Saturday.*
