The City of Bacolod will only be allotted 10 contact tracers for the period March to August after the budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government for the purpose was reduced.
Bacolod Interior and Local Government officer Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said that together with Emergency Operations Center (EOC), they will be assessing the number of contact tracers to be re-hired by Bacolod since it will only be allocated 10.
There are only 100 slots allocated for Western Visayas so this will be divided among the local governments which include two highly urbanized cities, Madayag said.
However, they will be helping the EOC in its contact tracing efforts considering the reduction in the number of slots for Western Visayas since their budget was slashed, she said.
Madayag said the LGU is supposed to hire contact tracers because they do not know until when will their services be needed, while the DILG is only supposed to augment it.*
